| “SPIDER LILIES” I was told these are called ground water lilies, but I like my name better! They were part of the exciting visual displays in one of the artist’s garden surrounding their pond and waterfall. My mom held my arm while I stepped, leaned in and down to get a close up photo. The colors were too amazing for me to pass up. Several months later I purchased a VHS tape for $5 on painting vibrant orchids. The teacher used some colors I had never heard of and a method of painting the dark, deep colored background, which I wanted to try. This is the result. I was preparing for a show in a hotel and I was inspired by some of the wonderful and colorful floral prints I have seen over the years in different hotel rooms. It was a bit scary, especially the background. However, I really wanted to paint them as a set, which took much longer than I had planned but I leaned a lot. |
