| THE ROBERT'S BARN STORY There are amazing scenic barns all over the Northwest. My friend Robert Rosier had been talking to me about painting one of his favorites; which is located on Bigelow Gulch. However, if you don't know where to look or when to see that three second beauty, you will miss it. Robert generously met me at the crack of dawn on a frosty Sunday morning to direct me to this barn. The trees were perfect and the steam was rising off the roof as the morning sun was trying to peek through the mist. Robert stayed with me for two hours to get just the right shot to paint. I was in a winter coat, gloves and boots. He had come directly from taking a jog and must have frozen several body parts that day. We worked together to choose the best angle to capture his favorite barn. Very fun! I had no clue as to how I was going to make the trees look frosty. I ended up using a fine brush and Chinese white opaque paint. For the background I used salt just as the paint was drying to give it a mysterious look. When showing this piece you need to have a bright halogen light shining down and it makes the snow jump off the paper. |
